Almshouses
St John's Hospital was founded in Bath in the 12th century and yet is still to this day providing "comfort" in old age for those in need. There are only a handful of ‘hospitals’ in Britain with such a long and esteemed history. At the heart of the Charity are its Almshouses. Residents enjoy continous Domiciliary Care, all year round, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, which is provided by the dedicated Care and Support Staff. They provide not only traditional housing support to all the Almshouses residents, such as daily welfare visits and any emergency response, but also personal care to those with a specific need. Anyone interested in finding out more about becoming a resident should contact the Care Department on the main contact number 01225 486400.
Over the years, the Hospital of St John the Baptist in Bath has changed and evolved into a throughly modern organisation, with the provision of care for residents as its core objective, but also the distribution of grants to those who require help and assistance, as another of its main aims.

Maintenance
A small but skilled team of maintenance staff, which includes carpenters, joiners and porters, takes care of routine repairs and maintenance requests in all the Almshouses. A list of preferred contractors is also used from time to time to provide additional services (such as electricians, plumbers and carpet fitters).

Transportation used by the Maintenance and Facilities teams.
A full-time gardener tends the award-winning gardens with the help of a part-time assistant, giving residents a pleasurable environment for both relaxation and exercise. The benefits of such access to nature are immeasurable and the residents often comment on how fortunate they are to have these facilities.
Barbers, hairdressers, chiropodists and other specialists regularly visit both Almshouse complexes. In addition, local florists and other tradesmen frequently provide additional services to the residents.
Chaplain
A part-time Chaplain conducts weekly services at both the city centre Chapel, St Michael’s Within, and at Combe Park. He also visits residents who might be ill or in hospital. The Chaplain attends many of the social functions organised by St John’s.
